Overview

Discover the best of the southwest of the Pearl of Africa! Start by watching wildlife in Queen Elizabeth National .Park. followed by a unique gorilla experience in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Arriving at the airport you will be warmly welcomed by an Oikos Safaris representative who will then transfer you to  your hotel in Kampala or in Entebbe depending on your flight arrival time. If you arrive very late in the night, we recommend you overnight in Entebbe as opposed to Kampala.

Overnight at Skyz Hotel (Dinner and breakfast)

Scenic Queen Elizabeth National Park is located in south western Uganda and is most often included in visitors’ itineraries. It is the second largest park in the country and located at the base of the majestic Rwenzori Mountain range, next to Lake Edward and Lake George which are joined by the Kazinga channel. Few reserves in the world have such a high biodiversity with landscapes including savannah, bushland, wetlands and lush forests. On your first game drive, it is time to explore the Queen Elizabeth National Park with her 200 kilometers of well-maintained game viewing tracks. We advise for you to be alert and pro-active on your game drive to help the ranger spot as many animals as possible.

Overnight at Baboon Safaris or similar (Lunch, Dinner and breakfast)

After an early breakfast, you go for a long game drive in time to see the sun rise. The morning is the best time for a game drive as the African animal kingdom tends to me most active when during the golden hours of the first sunlight touching the savannah. You will continue the search for all the wildlife; elephant, buffalo, lion, waterbuck, leopard, Uganda Kob, warthog and do not forget about the birds and the primates.

After lunch, you will take a boat trip along the Kazinga Channel. Here, you will see a lot of hippos , as well as a variety of other animals which come to the waterhole to drink or bathe. You can expect to see: Buffalos, Crocodiles, bathing Elephants, and a range of beautiful birds. This will undoubtedly be one of the highlights of your tour. After the boat trip, you will have a game drive back to the lodge

Overnight at Baboon Safari Resort  or Similar (Lunch, Dinner and breakfast)

This morning after breakfast, you will be transferred to Bwindi forest for 2 nights. Bwindi is a home to over half of the world’s mountain gorilla population. Interacting with these gentle giants is one of the most moving experiences that Africa has to offer and should not be missed! The ancient rainforest of Bwindi spans 321 sq km and   boasts 90 mammal species, including a range of primates, as well as 23 Albertine Rift endemic bird species, including the African Green Broadbill, the Bar Tailed Trogon and many others.

Relax in the evening and get ready for the following day’s gorilla tracking.

Overnight at  Rushaga Gorilla Camp or Similar (Breakfast, Lunch, dinner)

This morning you will set off for gorilla trekking. Your trek will be an exciting journey along forested slopes, entwined vines, bushes and bamboo before you eventually reach the gentle giants. En-route, your guide will point out signs of previous gorilla activity. Think of dung, nests and chewed bamboo shoots. The time to complete the gorilla trekking can be as little as 2 hours to as much as 7 hours! Once  the family of gorillas has been located, you will be allowed a maximum of one hour observing them. Coming face-to-face with the mountain gorillas is a truly humbling and emotional experience. This is a fantastic part of your tour you will definitely remember for the rest of your life.

If time permits there are a diverse range of activities which are unique to Bwindi which you can participate in during the afternoon.

Optional Activities:

Batwa Trail: During this moving tour, the Batwa demonstrate hunting techniques; gather honey; point out medicinal plants and demonstrate how to make bamboo cups.

Guests are then invited to the sacred Ngarama Cave, once home to the Batwa King to be entertained by traditional music and dance.

Village Walk: Overlooking the imposing hillsides of Bwindi Impenetrable forest, with the mist swirling over the summits, this is one of the most dramatic settings for your cultural tour! Among others, meet a traditional healer, who not only treats the sick, but uses his knowledge to conserve and educate about the various medicinal plants.

Overnight at  Rushaga Gorilla or Being transfered to Lake Bunyonyi for Overnite Camp(Breakfast, Lunch, dinner)

After breakfast, you will begin your journey from Bwindi Impenetrable Forest to Kampala or Entebbe. You will drive through the terraced hillsides of Uganda and later get to see  the Equator where you can stand in both hemispheres simultaneously. This is the best place for your souvenir shopping. You will stop enroute to look at the Royal Drum makers as well. Have lunch and then head to Entebbe international airport for your flight home.
